The Unseen Sea

The Unseen Sea, is a collection of time lapses from around the San Francisco Bay Area roughly shot over the period of one year in 2009/2010.

It started out with me collecting shots from different vantage points around the Bay Area without a clear plan of the final result. It was really over the period of that year, that I decided I wanted to cut my favorite shots together and create a short film. The shot of the fog "waves" hitting the hill side finally made me decided to focus on the fog and it's unique movement. From there on out I specifically set out to capture images of fog. Which resulted in a lot of grey images... Just like with other photography, sometimes you get lucky with what nature puts on display other times you don't. For every shot that is in the final film, there must be at least 10 that weren't all that special.

But once in a while I got lucky with the scenes that unfolded in front of me, and my persistence of heading out trying to find interesting light and new vantage points started to pay off. I was fortunate to witness spectacular lighting situations and beautiful displays of movement and color in the fog and clouds.

I was completely overwhelmed with the positive reaction it received when I released the video online. It really came as a surprise to me but it made me very happy that people seem to enjoy it as much as I do.

This only increased the pressure on me to hopefully create an even better short film with the newly released "Adrift"...

Thanks for watching!
